Tell us about your travel habits and journeys on the survey day

The nationwide personal traffic survey investigates how Finns move in their local area and across the country. By responding, you will have the opportunity to influence how the traffic in your living environment is planned in the future.

Respond together with your child to questions about their travel habits and the journeys your child made on the one day mentioned in the survey invitation. We hope you participate in the survey even if your child does not make any journeys on that day, as this information is also valuable.

The data collected in the survey is used for forecasting future mobility, modeling, planning new rail, road, street, pedestrian, and cycling investments, as well as planning and monitoring transport services. The survey results provide valuable information about people's mobility to many entities working in the field of transportation, such as planners, researchers, experts, and decision-makers. The results are also utilized by municipalities, regions, and agencies.

What is a trip?

Trip means moving from one place to another.
Also, a round trip ending at the point of departure is a trip.

The trip may contain small stops or deviations, for
example to a kiosk. If the trip is interrupted for a
longer period or the purpose of the trip is changed,
the trip is deemed to end and a new trip to begin.

The trip can be done with one or more modes of
transportation. If you change the mode of transportation
during the trip, for example from one bus to another, add
both buses separately. Walking to a stop or between
stops is also a part of the trip.

Moving inside one’s personal yard or other private area is not
considered a trip. Similarly, the travel of a professional driver
or other people professionally responsible for transporting
people or goods are not included in the survey. However,
journeys to the workplace and back are considered as trips.

Example of travel day trips:

1.	from home to school
2.	from school to meet friend
3.	from friend to home
4.	from home to hobby
5.	from hobby to home
6.	outdoor walk from home to home
